Pastry
– 1 package of phyllo dough
– 1 stick of unsalted butter, melted

Filling
– 1 large onion, finely chopped
– 4 cloves of garlic, minced
– 2 pounds of fresh spinach, roughly chopped
– 1 cup of feta cheese, crumbled
– 1 tablespoon of dried oregano
– 1 teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper

Steps for Making Spanakopita

Before getting started, preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Next, prepare the pastry by arranging the phyllo dough on a flat surface and brushing each sheet with melted butter. Once all the sheets are stacked, set them aside and move on to the filling.

To make the filling, heat a large saucepan over medium heat and add the onion and garlic. Sauté until the onions are translucent, then add the spinach. Cook until the spinach is wilted, then add the feta, oregano, and black pepper. Stir everything together and remove the pan from the heat.

Now it’s time to assemble the spanakopita. Carefully unroll the phyllo sheets and place a thin layer of the filling on top of the dough. Carefully roll the pastry into a log shape and place it on a greased baking sheet. Brush the top with a bit of melted butter and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown.
